Sulfuric Type Anodized Aluminum Colors

Sulfuric Acid Anodizing Services (Color and Clear Anodizing)

Clear and Colored Coatings offers Standard Sulfuric/Type II Anodizing. We’ve anodized parts for the manufacturing and industrial community for over 20 years with quality results delivered on each job. People who don't know about sulfuric acid anodizing may be unsure of the process and its advantages. We have broken down some of its main points for them.

What is Sulfuric Acid Anodizing?

Sulfuric acid anodizing or the sulfuric acid process is the most widely used method for anodizing. Sulfuric acid bath is used in this electrochemical process to create a porous aluminum oxide coating.

The thickness of the anodized coating created in this process is extremely thin (.0001 in. to .001 in. thickness).

The thin coat creates an extremely porous surface. This porous surface allows the metal to absorb colored dyes easily.

Once colors are absorbed, the aluminum is sealed. This method of integral coloring of the metal is accepted as the ideal choice throughout the industry. It ensures longevity and color hold for the metal part.

Benefits of Sulfuric Anodizing

  • Abrasion Resistance - The protective anodic layer created during the anodizing process helps reduce abrasion and wear.
  • Corrosion Resistance - The anodic coating created during the anodizing process helps to prevent oxidation.
  • Cost Effective – This process is less expensive than other types of anodizing.
  • Electrical Insulation - The anodizing process makes the aluminum material non-conductive.
  • Large Color Options – The sulfuric anodizing process produces a clear finish. This allows for a larger selection of colors when dyeing. This makes this process the ideal choice for consumer facing aluminum parts often used in the manufacturing industry.
  • Improved Hardness - Sulfuric anodizing delivers a harder finish than chromic acid anodizing.

Sulfuric Anodizing Applications

  • Consumer products (such as carabiners, pen clips and more)
  • Mechanical hardware
  • Optimal components
  • Military weapons
  • Computer and electronic parts
  • And More

Anodized Color and Quality Depends on the Process

Anodizing is an essential metal finishing process and the final results will depend on those who are doing the process. Anodizing is a type of conversion coating. This process changes some of the raw aluminum into aluminum oxide.

Adding a color process introduces an extra layer of complexity. It's important to ensure colors are consistent and uniform across all parts. Clear and Colored Coatings can handle all of your needs when it comes to sulfuric anodizing.

We have over 40 years of industry expertise. This experience allows us to get you from quote to final product quickly. Our turnaround time is industry leading.
